Winter in Banff and Lake Lousie

Sorry for not writing lately; I was on a sales trip to the UK and Germany for the last couple of weeks. I met with different companies who sell the Banff Aspen Lodge and I was speaking a lot about this coming winter season. Talking about winter (along with early snow falls we've been getting), makes me really excited about the upcoming snowy months.

There is so much to do in Banff and Lake Louise in the winter time; it can be a true winter wonderland! Skiing at one of the three local ski hills is one of the most popular activities. Imagine skiing in a National Park, in champagne powder with hardly anyone around! There is Mount Norquay, located 10 minutes from Banff. Sunshine Village is around 25 minutes from Banff and then Lake Louise is approximately 45 minutes from Banff. My favourite mountain is definitely Sunshine Village, but all three resorts have something for everyone!

I also enjoy cross country skiing . There are SO many different trails in Banff National Park; my favourite trail is just outside the Park at Emerald Lake. It is an easy beginner trail that doesn't have too many hills.

Ice skating is another option in the winter. A skating rink is made on the Bow River in Banff (by the Blue Canoe docks) and you can rent skates from Snowtips (225 Bear Street). A rink is also made up at the Banff Springs, along with a fire pit and there is a tobogganing hill. In Lake Louise, a skating rink is made right in front of the Chateau Lake Louise on the Lake itself; it is Awesome!

Dog sledding in Lake Louise is also an amazing activity to try. Kingmik Dogsled Tours has a few different options ranging from a 30 minute "Mushing 101" tour to a 2 hour "Great Divide" tour. You may even get the opportunity to drive your own sled!

The best part of all these winter activities? Enjoying a cup of hot chocolate (with some Bailey's if desired) and relaxing in front of the fire at the end of the day :)
