The Banff Centre

I have lived in Banff for just over seven years now and I realized recently that I have not been taking advantage of the fact that I live in the same town as The Banff Centre; an amazing facility recognized globally in the Arts Community.  I've been to a few shows now and then and recently attended a concert by American singer/guitarist Erik Bib and West African singer / guitarist Habib Koite. These two men have amazing talent and I was awed by their performance.  My husband and I have now decided to purchase an 'Art Lover's Pass' in order to attend more performances at the Banff Centre throughout the summer.

The Banff Centre also offers Educational Courses and Leadership Programs and their Art Programs include dance, film, indigenous arts, theatre, photography, opera, voice and much much more!   If you are an Artist who is looking for a new challenge, check out the different Art Programs available here.

SnowDays in Banff!

If winter has you feeling the blues, Banff Lake Louise can fix this and provide you with all sorts of fun, winter activities to get you through!  From January 12th - February 10th, SnowDays is happening in Banff National Park and here is just a small sampling of what you need to check out:

Jan12 / 13 - Mountain Adventure Weekend
*A 40 foot ice climbing wall (gear and instruction are included) at Banff Avenue Square.  This photo was taken today (Jan12) and it just looks incredible!

 *Check out Central Park this weekend; it has been transformed into a true winter playground!  Ski and snowboard instructors are available to teach the basics so that you are comfortable to get out on the mountain!
   
January 18 - 27 - Ice Magic
*From January 18 - 20, 24 international  ice carvers have 34 hours to sculpt a block of solid ice into an amazing piece of art.  Each piece of ice weighs 300lbs and the theme for 2013 is 'Carve a Song'.    Visit Lake Louise for this amazing experience...there is even a free shuttle from the Village of Lake Louise to the Chateau to avoid parking at the Lake.
*Saturday Jan19 from 1-2pm and then 2-3pm; learn to skate at the downtown Banff skating rink with a local skater who will share the basic skills on how to skate!  Rentals are available at Snowtips and helmets are required.
*Little Chippers Weekend is January 26-27 - this is a family event in Lake Louise where kids are able to learn how to carve ice, play ice mini golf and experience ice tunnels and slides.   The sculptures from Jan18-20 are still on display for all the enjoy ~

Learn to Snowshoe
On January 26 from 1-2pm and 2-3pm; learn to snowshoe in Banff Central Park with a local snowshoeing expert!  Snowshoes are provided for free

Christmas Shopping in Banff!

Christmas is only a few days away and while I finished my shopping just over two weeks ago, I am under the impression that quite a few people are still looking for that perfect gift!  If you are spending the holidays in Banff and have some last minute shopping to do, I've compiled a list of my favourite stores and suggestions to help you out:

*Westrock Jeans ~ clothing store with both men and ladies styles.  They also carry really cute scarves, hats, some jewelry and handbags!  I bought a dress here at the start of December and it has been my 'go-to' Christmas party dress; I've worn it at least five times so far this month and am still in love with it!  Westrock Jeans is located in the lower level of Cascade Plaza (317 Banff Avenue) and you can check them out online here.

*Avanti Shoes ~ basically the only 'dressy' shoe store in Banff; carrying both men and ladies shoes.  Located in the Bison Courtyard (211 Bear Street), this store has gorgeous boots, pumps and flats.  They currently have a 40% sale in-place on select Kenneth Cole and Nine West styles between now and December 24.  Starting December 26th their Boxing Week sale starts.  More details are available here.

*Cabin108 ~ I love this store!  They carry really funky items including clothing, shoes, jewelry, scarves, hats, handbags and more.  I bought a dress here back in September that is amazing!  Everything in this boutique is so unique and you can visit them at 108 Banff Avenue.  Have a look at their Facebook Page for more information.

Also check out Rude Boys Snowboard & Skateboard Shop or their sister shop Rude Girls at 203 and 205 Caribou Street if looking for snowboard / skateboard styles.  Looking for ski or snowboard gear?  Visit Soul Ski & Bike at 203A Bear Street; they do amazing bootfitting on both ski and snowboard boots.
